25 of November
Saint Catherine also known as The Great Martyr Saint Catherine is a beloved Christian Saint and a Martyr in the Orthodox World. In Greek her name is “Άγια Αικατερίνη η Μεγαλομάρτυς”. She was the daughter of Constus, the govern of Alexandria in Egypt. Catherine was of rare beauty and she received an excellent education. Even though many young men sought her hand in marriage, Catherine told her parents that she would only marry someone who surpassed her in beauty, riches and wisdom. In search for that man, Catherine met a spiritual Elder who taught her the faith of Christ, encouraged to pray and baptized her. She visited the Roman Emperor Maxentius to try to convince him to stop prosecuting Christians and to convert him. He condemned her to death and she was beheaded. It is believed that angels carried Saint Catherine’ body to Mount Sinai. Her head and left hand are kept in the Sinai monastery. St. Catherine is called upon for relief and assistance during a difficult childbirth. Pilgrims who visit the monastery on Mount Sinai are given souvenir rings as a remembrance of their visit. The Orthodox Church celebrate her feast day on November 25.
