Anastasios was a Byzantine emperor. He had one blue eye and one black eye from which he was nicknames “Dicorus” which means having two eyes. At the time of the death of Zeno, Anastasius was raised to the throne of the Roman empire of the East, following Ariadne’s request. Ariadne was Zeno's widow, and married Anastasios shortly after his accession. Anastasios gained the popular favor by a judicious remission of taxation, and displayed great vigour and energy in administering the affairs of the empire.
